That’s one off the bucket list. A number 86 bus to Penny Lane, and a bowl of scouse in the café near the shelter in the middle of a roundabout. To be honest, there’s not a lot to see really but it’s good to say I’ve been. And I’m a convert to scouse, which is basically a lamb stew. Simple fare but I can see why the locals love it, while at the same time seeing why it won’t be on the menu at the Savoy Grill anytime soon.

Back in the city, we found the Philharmonic Rooms pub. A glorious Victorian Gothic building with side rooms called”Brahms” and “Liszt.” We sat in “Brahms” and were thoroughly entertained by a woman with an armour-piercing voice who seemed oblivious to the effect she was having on the other customers. Well, these two Grumpy Old Men anyway.

And I can also now say I’ve been to The Cavern. Quite a way underground. I don’t know why that was a surprise to me but it was! There was a guy with a guitar there singing songs by….well, you can probably guess. He was good but (and is this my age showing again?) LOUD. A quick coke – it was only 11.30am after all – while we were sitting next to some FC Porto fans, who were here because their team plays at Anfield tonight, then on to the next point of interest.

Normally I walk about 30 steps a day, mainly between the sofa and the kitchen. We were already up to about 15,000 when we went to the Museum of Liverpool and the Maritime Museum, both of which were very well thought out and with a bit more energy I would’ve enjoyed them a lot more. But instead we found ourselves back at the apartment (STILL no hot water!) and collapsed on a sofa buy 5.15.

Think the day ended there? Not a bit of it! Proving that the 21st Century technology holds no fears for yours truly, we got an Uber (look it up, old people) to Bacaro, an Italian Tapas restaurant.

It has been said that I like everything. This place was no exception and I recommend it if you are ever in the area. I make no apology for enjoying all my food, although I wouldn’t want you to sue me if you end up in the same place and have a bad experience!

Tomorrow is the last day in Liverpool. No plans yet but I’ll find something to write about I’m sure. Probably a few lines about how nice the food is.
