New Year’s Eve 2018

I beetled off to Hexham this morning to see how much damage I’d done to my 62 year old body over the Christmas period.

I’ve been a member of Slimming World since August. Every Monday morning, I step on the scales and laugh at the weight that’s dropped off me since the previous week. A diet of vegetables, white meat and water is the order of the day most weeks, but with this being Christmas and all, I was expecting to have gained a couple of ounces.

I left the building this morning in floods of tears (well, slightly disappointed maybe) and quite frankly astonished that I could gain 6lbs in just seven days. At this rate I could be 40 stone by the middle of July.

I’ll be back next week though with a new resolve. Either that or I’ll have a limb removed.

I popped into the Abbey to ask for some spiritual guidance. On my way back to the car, I bumped into the Lovely Gail Lawler; we chatted about the novels we will never write, as we always do.  But today I detected a steely gaze in her eye which tells me that this time she really means it. We agreed that we would contact each other next New Year’s Eve to check progress. I fully expect her to be too busy to reply, as she’ll be on the set of the film they will be making, based on her book.

I’ll probably be at Slimming World, wondering how I managed to put so much weight on over Christmas…
